Fight leads to stabbing in downtown Vancouver: police

Vancouver police say one man was taken to the hospital and another was arrested after a stabbing downtown Thursday night.

According to the VPD, a fight between two people broke out around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Seymour and Helmcken streets.

“One of the men suffered a serious stab wound and attempted to take himself to hospital, but due to injuries was unable,” the VPD said in an email to CityNews.

The victim was taken to the hospital by paramedics, with police saying he remains in stable condition.

A suspect was arrested and remains in custody, police add.

It’s unclear what prompted the fight. The VPD has not said whether the two men know each other.
