While we’ve had some clear weather over the last couple of days, Metro Vancouver and much of southern B.C. is about to heat up.
It’s not even Victoria Day long weekend, but the beaches around the region could be busy over the next few days as plenty of sun and warm weather are set to settle in.
CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss explains even some long-term records could be shattered through Sunday.
“It’s been nice this week but the temperatures are now shooting up into near record territory,” he said Thursday.
“Records for YVR are between 20 to 23 degrees. I don’t think we’ll quite get there over the next three days, but more likely out in the Valley around Abbotsford.”
Kuss says on Thursday parts of the Fraser Valley will see temperatures of around 27 degrees, but could feel like 30 with the humidity.
“The record high will be close to that. For a temperature, tomorrow is most likely — the record is 25.3 for Friday set in 1993, and we should be up around 27 degrees.”
Kuss explains it’s not just those in the Lower Mainland who will need to slap on some sunscreen and slide on some sunglasses over the next few days.
“A huge area of high pressure is building, and not just along the B.C. coast but well up into the Interior,” he said.
“Temperatures into the central Interior, southern Interior, the Okanagan, for example, will be 10 degrees above normal.
“We could see highs pushing 30 degrees in Kelowna, in Kamloops, stretching down through Osoyoos, and even on the South Coast. We’ll see highs pushing into the mid to upper 20s.”
And for the mothers on Sunday, Kuss says while it may cool down just a little bit, it’s still going to be above season and dry — great news for families wanting to spend the day outside.
And it’ll stay that way even into next week, Kuss says, “if not all of most of next week.”
