Former Park Board commissioner John Coupar running for BC Conservatives in Vancouver

A familiar face in Vancouver politics is taking another run, this time with the BC Conservatives in the upcoming provincial election.

In a joint video with Conservative Leader John Rustad, John Coupar announced he will be seeking the seat in Vancouver-Little Mountain as the party’s candidate.

“This riding is right in the centre of Vancouver, my home for years, and I love the place. And I tell you, there’s a lot we need to do, we need to get things done, and I like the common-sense approach that John and the Conservatives have,” Coupar said.

“There’s a few key things that are big concerns to me. One is the crime and the opioid problem. We need to get that under control. It’s not working, the present system is not working, we need to get people into treatment, we need to get them off the streets, and we need people to be safe.”

Coupar noted sewage in False Creek is another issue he’d like to address, saying “that’s just outrageous.”

“That’s something the provincial government can help with and I’m confident that John and the team can do that,” he continued.

“We just need to really start doing things properly with common sense and looking after the interests of British Columbians and Vancouverites, and give them a clean, safe city that they can be proud of, like I’ve always been proud of, and that’s what we’re working towards.”

Coupar will be going up against another familiar civic face — Vancouver city councillor Christine Boyle, who is the candidate for the BC NDP.

Boyle was named the New Democrat’s pick after a nomination race between her and former coun. Andrea Reimer.
