Vancouver Fire Rescue Services closed a block of downtown Vancouver temporarily after reports of a gas leak Wednesday.
Alexander Street between Main Street and Columbia Street was closed to the public and traffic, as firefighters ordered the evacuation of the office building where the leak was reported.
Fire information officer Capt. Matt Trudeau says crews were expected to stay on the scene ventilating the building for another hour or two until they are able to detect fewer particles of gas in the air.
“[Vancouver Fire] is working right now with BC Hydro in force to isolate power and ensure that the gas is shut off and that the readings are starting to drop.”
Trudeau says crews do not know what caused the leak.
