Finding parking in Vancouver can sometimes be challenging, but getting into a spot when you locate one may be even more difficult.
A video taken over the weekend in South Granville shows a smart car driver learning this the hard way after encountering difficulties completing a parallel park in front of a residential building.
Beaumont, Alberta, musician Brent Hannah was in Vancouver for the Cryin’ Time Steel Guitar Convention when he noticed the driver struggling.
“I was sitting and reading a book. My wife Loretta was looking out the window and said, ‘You have to come see this,’” Hannah told Daily Hive. “The parking attempt was going on for about five minutes already, so I thought to myself, I have to film this.”
In the video, which has now been seen over 45 million times around the world, the smart car attempts to parallel park between two vehicles in a space that appears large enough for a full-size vehicle.
After nearly a minute of readjusting, the driver gives up and speeds away.
Hannah’s video has garnered over 1.6 million likes and nearly 47,000 comments, many poking fun at the driver and their smart car.
“Revoke their licence! Bruh can’t even handle half a car,” said one commenter,
“I don’t understand why people find it funny. It’s obviously a baby car. It still has to grow,” added another.
“I know this poor person thought, ‘I hope no one was watching that,’” said another person.
Even the official Hot Wheels Instagram account got in on the action.
Hannah is the founder of Hannah Guitars, which offers lap steel capos, pedal hug, and custom straps, and added that the video going viral took him completely by surprise.
“It’s baffling,” shared Hannah, who also plays in rockabilly band Shaguar and country band Echo Creek. “I asked myself, ‘What do I do with this?’ I did get thousands of new followers, which is huge.”
When asked if there was any advice that he would give the driver in his video, he added, “Get driving lessons.”
