Two arrested after fatal stabbing outside Coquitlam pub Friday

Two men are in custody after a fatal stabbing outside the John B Pub in Coquitlam Friday evening.

Mounties were called to the area just after 9:30 p.m. after reports of a fight outside the business located at 1000 Avenue.

“Bystanders acted quickly by providing First Aid and CPR to a man who was suffering from life-threatening injuries,” the Coquitlam RCMP said.

“First responders attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 35-year-old man died from his injuries on scene.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation.

Police believe the incident was isolated and add there is no risk to the public.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time out of respect for his family.

The RCMP says investigators remain in the area, canvassing for witnesses and processing the crime scene.

“We believe there are several witnesses to the fight who have yet to speak with police and we are asking them to contact us as soon as possible,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.

Anyone with any information or dash cam or CCTV footage from around the pub or Charland Avenue is asked to call IHIT immediately at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
