The best vegan restaurants in Vancouver, according to our readers

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Vancouver has some great spots for vegan food. So many, in fact, that choosing which one to visit on a night out can be a challenge.

We took to Instagram to ask our loyal followers about their favourite vegan restaurants. They delivered some great recommendations and we compiled a list of the most recommended spots.

Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or some upscale dining, this is your list of great vegan restaurants in Vancouver, as recommended by our readers.

Vancouver staples

Mila

Since opening in 2020, Mila has quickly become a fan-favourite for the vegan community in Vancouver, and for a good reason. We’re particularly fond of its Aburi Lox Oshi, a sushi roll made with carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, and serrano.

Address: 185 Keefer Street, Vancouver

MeeT

You’ll find plenty of plant-based versions of classic comfort food on the menu at Meet. Think poutine, burgers, mac and cheese, and plenty more. Plus, it offers a killer brunch menu at its Yaletown location.

Address: 1165 Mainland Street, Vancouver

Address: Inner Courtyard, 12 Water Street, Vancouver

Address: 4288 Main Street, Vancouver

Chickpea

Enjoy an epic cocktail program alongside hearty, filling, and flavourful dishes including the Cauliflower of Life (a whole roasted head of the veggie), Hatzil Baladi (flame-charred eggplant), Shnitzelonim (crispy battered smoked tofu), Shwarma (thinly-sliced marinated tempeh), and Falafel, to name a few.

If you’re going as a group, you can also enjoy Chickpea’s Share Hafla, which is great to share and gives you a taste of everything. For $20 per person, you get a main dish of your choice, plates of hummus, Israeli salad, and pita along with a signature array of salatim including red beet salad, matbucha, tangy Moroccan carrots, pickled veg, marinated cucumber, cabbage, hatzilim, and baba ganoush.

Address: 4298 Main Street, Vancouver

Upscale eats

Folke

In case you didn’t know, Folke offers hospitality-included service, which means the pricing model includes tipping.

It also offers a no-nonsense approach to its menu. Items are listed simply as the most prominent ingredient. We’d recommend trying the Gnocchi (with chanterelles, fennel, and ruta-bacon), Tapioca Dumplings (mushroom xo, chili oil, and ponzu), or the Carrots (bagna cauda, kale, and smoked maple).

If you can’t decide what to order (or as the restaurant so cleverly says: don’t give a folke), you can let Folke serve you seven courses of its choosing.

Address: 2585 W Broadway, Vancouver

The Acorn is best known for its ingredient-focused dishes that change with the seasons. Think house cavatelli pasta with charred rapini, hop shoots, and nettle pesto or kabocha squash toast.

Address: 3995 Main Street, Vancouver

Quick and delish

Oddburger

Odd Burger Vancouver

Hanna McLean/Dished

Having opened near the end of 2024, Oddburger has quickly become a go-to for vegan fast food in Vancouver.

The burgers here are reminiscent of other big-name chain core menu items, like the Famous Burger, a play on a Big Mac. This sky-high creation arrives with two housemade smash patties made with wheat and soy protein, flax seeds, onions, nutritional yeast, and a special seasoning blend.

Toppings include the house-made secret, “Famous Sauce,” onions, lettuce, dairy-free American-style cheddar cheese, pickles, and a toasted triple sesame bun.

Address: 2821 Main Street, Vancouver

To Live For Bakery

To Live For is no stranger to celebrity endorsement, with Jann Arden recently visiting the spot and raving about its snickerdoodle cheesecake cube croissant, and Billie Eilish recently recommending it to concertgoers.

The bakery is entirely vegan and is owned by Erin Ireland, a celebrated Vancouver-based vegan food blogger and business owner. It serves ever-changing pastries like cookies, croissants, scones, and more.

Address: 1508 Nanaimo Street, Vancouver.

Virtuous Pie

Offering an excellent selection of vegan pizzas and dairy-free ice cream, Virtuous Pie has made a name for itself in the city over the last few years. Virtuous is the place to go for zany plant-based pizzas, including its fan-favourites Ultraviolet (walnut and arugula pesto, cashew mozzarella, tomatoes, kale, caramelized onion, and pine nuts), and Superfunghi (wild mushrooms, potato cream, and mozzarella).

Address: 583 Main Street, Vancouver

Asian-inspired fare

Chi

This chic plant-based restaurant features an assortment of tasty cocktails and local wines, in addition to seasonal Asian-inspired dishes.

Those looking for some recommendations can’t go wrong with the XO Eggplant noodles (grilled eggplant, soy, chili jam, yellow noodles, and scallions) or the Creamy Rice Cakes (mix market mushrooms, coconut cream, and miso with the option to add freshly shaved white summer truffles).

Address: 1935 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver

Do Chay Saigon Vegetarian

The entire menu here is vegetarian, and almost all of it is vegan. The Vietnamese fare is traditional, but much of it has a modern flare. We can safely say that whether you love meat or not, this spot will have you leaving full, but not heavy.

Address: 1392 Kingsway, Vancouver

Po Kong

Vegans, you’ll never have to feel left out again when going for Sunday dim sum, because Po Kong features an entirely vegetarian menu of Chinese plates and dim sum. This local restaurant is in a low-key setting, giving off an unpretentious vibe that will have you coming back every weekend for their delicious eats.

Address: 1334 Kingsway, Vancouver

Cofu Pressed Sushi

This little sushi spot just outside of Granville Island is a destination for folks looking for inventive and delicious plant-based sushi options.

The vegan sushi menu includes veggie-forward options like organic red chard, portobello, marinated red radish and raspberry, and eggplant aburi. There are also vegan takes on smoked salmon, tuna, and short rib, but with ingredients like sweet potato and soy.

Address: 1833 Anderson Street #103, Vancouver

Viet Family

This spot serves Vietnamese classics like pho but with a vegan approach. Menu items include a chick’n pho made with king oyster mushrooms and vegan broth, as well as a beef pho made with a vegan beef substitute.

The menu, which is 100% plant-based, also includes some Thai and other Southeast Asian-inspired dishes, like laksa, pad thai, caramel spare ribs, and lemongrass chicken bowls.

Even the Vietnamese coffee, made with coconut-based condensed milk, is vegan.
