Dimanche

Dimanche (Mihaela Bodlovic)

What: The Cultch and The Push Festival team up to present Dimanche, which tells the tale of a family trying to spend their traditional Sunday together before climate chaos threatens to shake things up. Dimanche features physical theatre, puppetry, video, and practical effects for the critically acclaimed show.

What: Museum & Archives of North Vancouver’s latest feature exhibition spotlights untold stories of aging, memory loss, and dementia and how community can shape a collective human experience. Echoes of Memory features over 100 items from the museum’s collection as well as a touring display by Canadian Artist Karen Bondarchuk titled, A Crow A Day.

What: Pulitzer Prize for Drama-winning Primary Trust by writer and actress Eboni Booth makes its Canadian debut with Arts Club Theatre. The play follows Kenneth, who is forced to face a world he’s tried to hide from after he’s suddenly laid off, with surprising results. Can small acts of kindness turn things around for a person as well as improve the community at large? Find out when the show comes to the Granville Island Stage.

Women of the Fur Trade

Women of the Fur Trade/Jon Benjamin

What: Women of the Fur Trade by playwright Frances Koncan is set in “eighteen hundred and something-something” on the banks of a Reddish River in Treaty One Territory. The audience will meet three women with knowledge of 21st century slang as they discuss everything about life, love, and Louis Riel while stuck in a fort having tea.

What: Burnaby Lyric Opera brings the timeless tale of The Marriage of Figaro by W.A. Mozart to the Shadbolt Centre. Follow along as the characters attempt to outsmart, out-scheme and outlast each other while exploring life’s strange twists and challenges with humour and poise.

What: DanceHouse, in partnership with Blackout Art Society and the Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre, presents the Vancouver premiere of The City of Others (La Ciudad de los Otros).

Sankofa Danzafro’s Artistic Director Rafael Palacios choreographed the work to celebrate Colombia’s 159th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. The audience will experience a blend of contemporary dance, high-energy techno beats, and traditional Colombian songs and dances.

Ballet Jörgen’s Sleeping Beauty: the Ballet

What: Ballet Jörgen: Sleeping Beauty the Ballet takes to the stage for a magical interpretation of the timeless story of Aurora and her prince. The performance will include the original 1890 score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and is set to a libretto based on Charles Perrault’s story La Belle au Bois Dorman

What: Sri Lankan artist Rajni Perera brings nearly thirty works from throughout her career to the Surrey Art Gallery for the exhibition, Futures. While she looks ahead to unsure times with social inequities and climate change looming, her future goddesses and inventive armours work to adapt to challenging times and places.

What: Otosan tells the tale of Shizu, who hides in her Otosan’s suitcase as he travels to the north. The dangerous environment is filled with white wolves, grizzly bears and snowy owls, and she and her father must learn to face the challenges together while discovering how to communicate their love. Otosan features puppetry, real wildlife projections, and an original score. It is suitable for ages 4+ and is deaf and hard-of-hearing friendly.

What: Metro Theatre presents Sinners by Canadian playwright Norm Foster. The play tells the story of a furniture store owner having an affair with the local minister’s wife. The complication arises when the minister arrives home unannounced, and soon, the local police, parishioners, and the women’s auxiliary are swept up in the chaos.
