Canadian lottery winner’s family now want him to touch their tickets for good luck

A lottery player in Ontario has become his family’s good luck charm after a huge win.

Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Beaverton resident Patrick Forgie. He won $100,000 after matching the last six of seven Encore numbers in the exact order during the December 21, 2024, Ontario 49 draw.

Forgie, who works in the paramedic field, has been playing with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for many years.

He enjoys playing a variety of jackpot games, including Ontario 49, Lotto 6/49, and Lotto Max. Forgie uses OLG’s Quick Pick feature to make his selections and always adds Encore to his tickets.

The father of four is delighted to be celebrating his recent big lottery win. He scanned his Ontario 49 ticket on a Sunday morning, the day after the draw.

“I wasn’t sure I was seeing the prize amount correctly. I showed my wife and asked, ‘Honey, is this a decimal or a comma?’ She was taken aback, saying, ‘Is that real?’ It felt so surreal!” Forgie recalled while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

He shared the amazing news with his family and said everyone was so happy for him.

“They want to pick up their own tickets and have me touch them for good luck,” Forgie chuckled. “This win came at a great time for my family and me.”

The dad has some important plans with the lottery windfall. Forgie plans to pay some bills, share the prize with his children, and take a trip to Florida with his wife.

He bought his winning lottery ticket at Beaverton Superstore on Mara Road in Beaverton.
