BMW driver scolded after close call with Vancouver pedestrians

A close call between pedestrians and a BMW led to the driver of the vehicle being scolded in Vancouver.

The incident happened just a week ago at the busy intersection of 12th Avenue and Oak Street.

A video from someone’s dashcam shared with the Facebook group Metro Vancouver Learns to Park and Drive shows precisely what happened.

Sahib Sandhu shared the video with Daily Hive. Sandhu told Daily Hive he was heading eastbound on 12th Avenue, and pedestrians were going south on Oak Street.

As the dashcam driver comes to a stop at a red light, we see the BMW driver to the right approaching the crosswalk as pedestrians are crossing the busy Vancouver street. The driver continues to push forward even as the pedestrians are just inches away.

Finally, the BMW driver stops, which leads to one of the pedestrians going to the driver’s side window to give the driver a piece of their mind.

While most people who have commented on the video are on the side of the pedestrians, there are a few comments from people suggesting that they should be wearing brighter colours. Over the last year, there have been several stories of pedestrians struck and injured or, in some cases, killed by vehicles. Vancouver police reported on one such case just a few weeks ago.

“Glad that pedestrian gave that driver a talking to,” one user said.

Another Facebook user chimed in, saying, “How about also knowing to come to a complete stop behind the stop line at a red light?”

Others are calling for more enforcement, with one person saying they should “give tickets to these careless drivers!”

“Where is law enforcement?!” another user asked.

As we mentioned, some also suggested the pedestrians deserved partial blame.

Pedestrians should choose light-coloured clothing also. Everyone needs to be responsible.

What’s your take? Do you think the pedestrians deserve any of the blame for this specific incident?
