A Surrey fire that occurred at around 11 pm on New Year’s Day led to several businesses being damaged.
Daily Hive has heard from the Surrey Police Service that two restaurants were among the businesses impacted by the strip mall blaze. A counselling services centre was also damaged.
The fire occurred at the 10600 block of 135A Street, and police assisted fire crews at around 10:50 pm. The area is about a 15-minute walk to Surrey Central SkyTrain Station.
According to Ian MacDonald, the Surrey Police Service’s media liaison, no one was injured in the fire, which is being called a structure fire.
Fire officials are still investigating, and we likely won’t know more, including a potential cause, until they wrap up their investigation.
“We are awaiting a thorough exam by fire investigators to determine [the] cause,” MacDonald said.
Three businesses were damaged in total. Two restaurants in the area, including an African cuisine spot named Alebi, were impacted.
“The main damage is to the west, which includes that office and one of the restaurants,” MacDonald added.
We’ll update this story when we get the full release from the Surrey Police Service after the preliminary investigation is concluded.
