“They met at The Roxy”: Scott Oake spills the tea about Celebrini’s mom and dad

It’s Vancouver’s most infamous bar and Macklin Celebrini just learned a fun fact about it — involving his parents.

The 18-year-old phenom from North Vancouver is enjoying an excellent rookie season with the San Jose Sharks. Drafted first overall back in June, Celebrini has 27 points in 27 games — earning him an interview with Scott Oake on After Hours Saturday.

Bet he didn’t expect to learn a new story about his mom and dad live on Hockey Night in Canada.

“Being from Vancouver, I’m sure you’ve heard of The Roxy, right?” Oake asked before the big reveal.

“Your parents Rick and Robyn, both star soccer players at UBC, you would logically think that they met on the campus at UBC, right? I should tell you this, they met at The Roxy. Did you know that?”

This was news to Macklin.

“I did not know that. I had no idea,” Celebrini said, laughing. “I knew they met at some sort of bar or place, but I didn’t know it was The Roxy.”

Oake summed it up perfectly.

“There you have it. True love can be born at The Roxy, and the Celebrinis prove it!”

The Celebrini family was well known in Vancouver before Macklin became an NHL star. His father, Rick Celebrini, is a world-class physiotherapist that worked for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Vancouver Canucks before joining the Golden State Warriors.

Few families have better sports genes than the Celebrinis. Macklin’s older brother Aiden was drafted by the Canucks in 2023, while his younger sister Charlie is a talented tennis player. And, of course, his parents were both exceptional soccer players.

And they owe it all to The Roxy.
