January 1 may be a slower day for some, but for those looking to make the most of the statutory holiday, we’ve got the details on what’s open and closed to make some last-minute plans.

Don’t forget that free public transit on the entire TransLink system across Metro Vancouver returns on New Year’s Eve!

And if you’re feeling brave, put on your trunks and grab a towel and head to English Bay for the annual Polar Bear Swim.

Malls

  • CF Pacific Centre Mall (open from 11 am to 6 pm)
  • International Village (open from 10 am to 10 pm)

Translink

TransLink buses, SeaBus, and SkyTrain services will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on January 1. West Coast Express will also not operate.

TransLink Customer Service Centre, Access Transit Customer Care Office, and the Lost Property Office will be closed.

Many grocery stores are open but may operate reduced hours on New Year’s Day. The following grocery stores are open, but be sure to check with your local store on what time they’ll be closed.
