Vancouver only Canadian spot on Airbnb’s top 25 destinations for 2025

Vancouver got a special nod for would-be visitors planning their 2025 travels this month.

Airbnb included BC’s biggest city on its list of the top 25 trending travel destinations for 2025. Vancouver was the only Canadian city to make the list.

“As one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada, Vancouver not only thrives with a vibrant culture but also offers a mild climate and breathtaking outdoor attractions,” Airbnb said in its news release.

Vancouver was one of Airbnb’s most-wishlisted destinations in 2024, and the company anticipates it will grow in popularity in 2025. The Invictus Games happening in February may draw travellers early in the year.

Taylor Swift bringing her Ears Tour to Vancouver in December 2024 also boosted our typically popular city’s profile.

Airbnb highlighted one of its stunning rental properties in Deep Cove, which has a hot tub, as one of the reasons why visitors like booking stays here.

Destination Vancouver says the city doesn’t have enough accommodation for those who want to visit. A recent report from the tourism organization says Vancouver needs 20,000 more hotel rooms by 2050 to meet tourist demand.

The Government of BC tightened rules around Airbnb this year to protect the housing supply amid the housing crisis. They made it so that only someone’s principal residence can be listed on Airbnb and other short-term rental platforms. Only a few resort-focused communities, such as Whistler, are exempt.

The government’s research suggested that about 16,000 full homes had been pulled from the long-term rental market and into more lucrative short-term rentals. Officials hope clamping down on vacation rentals can increase the supply of much-needed rental housing for British Columbians.

Other cities on Airbnb’s list of top destinations were located in Japan, India, Thailand, Australia, and the US. Airbnb said Japan is especially popular among Gen Z travellers.
