You’ll soon be able to see Vancouver and parts of BC transformed entirely into Seattle and other American towns in the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us, which is apparently drawing closer than a clicker breathing down your neck.
Okay, maybe not that close.
Popular YouTuber domthebomb has revealed some new information, including the likely release window and potential episode count.
According to their Instagram post and based on information they received from IGN and Naughty Dog Info on X, the next chapter in the post-apocalyptic series will likely premiere sometime next spring.
The second season went into production earlier this year, with pre-production likely beginning much earlier than that, as the show was picked up for a second season in January 2023. Many productions were delayed thanks to the writer’s strike, and the newest season of The Last of Us was no exception.
Thankfully, things got back on track after the strike, and based on some educated speculation, they’re poised to release next spring.
“It will release between March-May as it will need to do so to qualify for the Emmy Awards! Casey Bloys confirmed this in a presentation of the 2025 programming slate to journalists. Via IGN,” wrote domthebomb in his IG post.
The Emmy Awards prediction makes sense, as the first season was nominated for a whopping 24 awards. Variety reported that it was the first live-action video game adaptation to be nominated in major Emmy categories.
In September, we got our first look thanks to a teaser, which featured a surprising appearance from Canadian legend Catherine O’Hara.
The show’s creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have revealed that the second season will only feature seven episodes. There could be several reasons for such a short season.
Season two of The Last of Us is based on the acclaimed video game The Last of Us Part II.
In that game, the story — without giving anything away — is broken up into two parts, following two different characters. It could be that season two will focus on the first character, with season three following the second character. But that’s more speculation on our part. In response to domthebomb’s post, others speculated similarly.
Whatever the case is, we will soon see Vancouver completely transformed into a post-apocalyptic Seattle. Some Vancouver residents got previews over the last several months, stumbling upon various shoots around the city that were obviously related to The Last of Us.
