The annual winter changes to public transit bus services in Metro Vancouver will include the introduction of a brand-new bus route for Surrey.
Today, TransLink announced the service changes starting on January 6, 2025, will increase bus service frequencies on 14 bus routes to help address overcrowding and improve convenience.
As well, 12 bus routes — including 10 within Surrey and Langley — will see an extension of service hours.
Currently, TransLink is focusing on expanding and improving bus service levels within Surrey and Langley, as these areas of the South of Fraser are leading Metro Vancouver in bus ridership growth — outpacing other parts of the region in returning and exceeding pre-pandemic ridership.
Launching on the same day as the winter season service changes, this includes a brand new bus route, the No. 338 Guildford/East Fraser Heights.
Using a community shuttle bus vehicle, the No. 338 will be a looping route, running mostly along 104 Avenue and certain segments of 177A Street, Barnston Drive, and 100 Avenue. It will start/end near the intersection of 150 Street and 105 Street — immediately west of Guildford Recreation Centre, next to Guildford Town Centre shopping mall.
The No. 338 will run every 30 minutes from 7 am to 9 pm on weekdays, 8 am to 8 pm on Saturdays, and 8 am to 7 pm on Sundays/holidays, providing a connection to the R1 King George Boulevard RapidBus.
TransLink is launching the No. 338, following the recommendation of the City of Surrey to improve services for the East Fraser Heights neighbourhood.
This is funded by the stop-gap service improvements under the 2024 Investment Plan.
“As municipalities continue to grow throughout the region, our customers in Surrey have been asking for improved access to transit in East Fraser Heights,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn in a statement today.
