A 39-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of a woman in West Vancouver.
The West Vancouver Police Department says officers responded to a well-being check in the Ambleside district just after 1 a.m. Friday.
Police say they found a deceased woman with suspicious injuries, and a suspect was arrested at the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) looked into the homicide in collaboration with the West Vancouver Police Department and B.C. Coroners Service.
IHIT said B.C. Prosecution Service charged Michael Dean Boretsky with second-degree murder on Friday.
In a statement Saturday, Cpl. Esther Tupper of IHIT said that they believe that this was a “tragic incident of family violence.”
“As the parties were known to one another, investigators believe this to be an isolated event,” Tupper said.
Homicide investigators have not provided further details about the nature of the relationship between Boretsky and the victim.
IHIT is urging anyone with information to contact them.
Police say no further details will be released as the case is now before the courts.
