“It’s been 30 years”: Lottery winner will use prize to reunite with siblings

Manjurul Ratan of Mississauga is planning a long-awaited reunion with his family after winning the lottery.

The retiree has been playing the lottery over the past three decades and previously won $5,000 in 2019.

However, his recent win has landed him a windfall with a few more zeros as Ratan earned the second prize of $50,000 playing ONTARIO 49.

“I checked my ticket the day after the draw using the ticket checker at the store,” Ratan explained in a news release.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and had to scan it twice.”

As for how he’ll use his prize, Ratan intends to take a trip back home to see his family after many years.

“It’s been 30 years since I was last in my home country,” he said. I would like to make that trip happen and spend time with my siblings and their children.”

He also has some trips in mind with hopes of visiting Iceland and Greenland.

The lucky winner purchased his ticket at A & J Convenience on John Street in Mississauga.

Ratan isn’t the only recent winner with family-focused plans.

Hao Huang, a business owner in Toronto, recently won $1 million playing Lotto Max.

He said he would use his winnings to celebrate Lunar New Year with his family and take them on a trip.
