The Eras Tour has nearly arrived in Vancouver, and a local ticket broker says there are still opportunities to get seats for the coveted Taylor Swift shows.
The legendary performer is taking over BC Place for three dates — December 6, 7, and 8 — with tickets in extremely high demand from fans.
Kingsley Bailey, general manager at vancouverticket.com, told Daily Hive that Swifties need to be careful where they get resale tickets from.
“It is never too late, but you really have to be careful if you have price sensitivity,” said Bailey in an interview. “Scammers will prey on you. Purchasers must be very careful of who they are dealing with.”
The Lower Mainland Better Business Bureau issued a public warning this week after scammers sold fake Swift tickets and stole over $2,000 from fans.
A fraudster targeting Taylor Swift fans in BC led the West Shore RCMP to issue a warning to the public about fake ticket resales.
And North Vancouver RCMP warned the public last year after locals were scammed out of thousands of dollars.
“If the deal is too good to be true, it usually is,” added Bailey, who has been a ticket broker for over 40 years. “Get referrals and buy your tickets from a known seller or reseller. The price might be higher but you have purchased from someone that is in the business and has a track record of selling tickets for a living.
“Remember, if you buy tickets from a platform and there are issues with the ticket, be prepared to get a call back in 24 hours, usually after the show. Customer service should be first and foremost when it’s a show of this magnitude.”
When asked why resale tickets are so expensive to see Taylor Swift in Vancouver, Bailey responded it was simple economics.
“It’s in demand and fans really want to go. If someone offers you a crazy amount of money, it will make you think: three to four hours watching a great show or paying off my car payments for six months.
“Or maybe you can sell the tickets and go on a two-week vacation with accommodation to Hawaii or Europe, or not have to work for four months. That could and would make people think about selling those tickets.”
Some fans are going to some pretty extreme measures to get a ticket to see Taylor Swift in Vancouver. Others have paid a “historic” amount to get their seats.
Ticket resellers are even making bank on Taylor Swift listening-only tickets, which originally sold for approximately $15 plus tax and now selling for up to thousands of dollars online.
