‘Near zero visibility’ fog to cover Lower Mainland overnight

A fog advisory has been issued for parts of the Lower Mainland, and will remain in effect through midday Tuesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says “near zero visibility” fog is expected to cover Metro Vancouver and east into the Fraser Valley as far as Abbotsford.

“Ridge of high pressure which is anchoring over southern B.C. will provide a conducive environment for dense fog formation. Dense fog is expected to lift by tomorrow late morning,” ECCC said.

It says travel is expected to be hazardous as visibility could be “significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.”

Drivers are advised to turn on lights and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
