One of the stars of the hit HBO show The Last Of Us was spotted in downtown Vancouver.
A fan shared photos of Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, walking around the city as production of Season 2 gets underway in British Columbia.
On February 19, X user @alyssa_hamlet tweeted photos of Pascal in downtown Vancouver. The star was wearing what looked like a Canada Goose jacket, jeans and Nike sneakers as he was preparing to cross the street.
“Now that Pedro Pascal announced it I think I can post these pictures. My friend spotted him this weekend in downtown Vancouver,” the post reads.
It looks like the post was referring to the fact that Pascal mentioned he was in B.C. while accepting his 2024 People’s Choice Award virtually.
“I am in Vancouver right now, I so wish I could be with all of you guys, you have no idea how much I wish I could be with you,” Pascal said in his acceptance speech after winning the award for Male TV Star for The Last of Us on February 18.
This isn’t the first time the cast of the popular show has been spotted in Vancouver.
Back in January, Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced and Young Mazino were spotting dining at the restaurant Zarak by Afghan Kitchen in the city. Pascal was missing in the photo and hadn’t been spotted in B.C. until this week.
Filming of Season 2 began on February 20 and will continue until early September.
Here’s everything we know so far about Season 2 of The Last of Us.
Will there be a Season 2 of The Last of Us?
Yes, The Last of Us will have a Season 2.
The show was renewed for a second season before the Season 1 finale aired in March 2023.
Where is Season 2 of The Last of Us being filmed?
Season 2 of The Last of Us is being filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia.
According to Creative BC, the production set is based in Burnaby. As for the exact on-scene filming locations, those have yet to be confirmed. Hopefully, we’ll get more sightings of the cast as they film scenes out in public.
In an interview with Global News in March 2023, the CEO of Creative BC, Prem Gill, said the province was “thrilled’ to host the cast and crew.
“With an exceptional crew base and an unparalleled range of stunning locations, we are poised to build on the precedent set by Alberta’s exceptional work on season one,” Gill said at the time.
In March 2023, TV Line reported that Season 1 faced some criticism, including from author Stephen King, in terms of how it was shot. The criticism was that Joel and Ellie’s U.S. cross-country trip didn’t really feel like one and that was because it was filmed in Canada.
Showrunner Craig Mazin said they will do a better job of that in Season 2.
“Every now and then [in Season 1] you get a little bit of an ‘Oh, it’s Canada,’ when we don’t want it to be Canada,” Mazin expressed as per TV Line.
Season 1 of The Last of Us was filmed in Alberta, including in Calgary, Edmonton and Canmore.
Who will be in Season 2 of The Last of Us?
The two show leads, Pedro Pascal (who plays Joel) and Bella Ramsey (who plays Ellie) are both returning for Season 2.
HBO has also announced several actors who are joining the cast for the second season.
Kaitlyn Dever will be joining the cast as Abby who Esquire says is described as “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks out vengeance for those she loved.”
Young Mazino will be playing Jesse and Isabela Merced will play Dina. According to Esquire, Dina will be Ellie’s love interest.
Schitt’s Creek actress Catherine O’Hara has also joined the cast in a role that’s unknown at this point.
What will happen in Season 2 of The Last of Us?
We don’t want to spoil too much for those who haven’t played the game. What we will say is that in the game “The Last of Us: Part II” jumps ahead five years from the ending of “Part I” and introduces a new set of monsters, as reported by Variety.
Whether that happens in the show, we’ll just have to wait and see.
In an interview with Deadline, Pascal discussed whether the second season would deviate from the game the show is based on.
“I think that they’re always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show,” Pascal said at the time. “But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody.”
The showrunners haven’t revealed all that much when it comes to the upcoming season.
Entertainment Weekly reports Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said Season 2 “will be different,” similar to how Season 1 changed things up from the game.
“Sometimes it will be different radically, and sometimes it will be [barely] different at all. But it’s going to be different and it will be its own thing,” Mazin said as per EW.
“It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I want to make.”
Has the cast said anything about filming Season 2?
The cast of TLOU hasn’t said too much in terms of filming Season 2.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, new cast member Isabela Merced shared that she had started shooting the new season and how excited she was to be a part of it.
“I’m beyond, I already did one day of shooting, it was technically day 0, but the chemistry that Bella and I have is so so palpable and it’s really nice to be able to work with someone like that,” she told ET.
When will Season 2 of The Last of Us air on HBO?
According to Esquire, Season 2 will premiere on HBO sometime in 2025.
Will there be a Season 3 of The Last of Us?
As production of Season 2 gets underway, a third season of the HBO show hasn’t been confirmed.
However, it sounds like it’s not off the table.
In an interview with Deadline, HBO Head of Drama Francesca Orsi indicated that a third season could happen.
“I think Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann] are still figuring out where they’re going to come to an end,” Orsi told the outlet.
“We have loosely heard that there will be a Season 3 idea for the series, but at this point, we’re taking it one season at a time. There’s no guarantee at this point that we’ll have a Season 3 but I know that they both have a vision for Season 3. Whether that lends itself to doing more [seasons], I don’t know yet.”
