Canucks lose Hronek to injury and it doesn’t sound good: report

The Vancouver Canucks got some bad injury news today.

Defenceman Filip Hronek is injured and seems set to miss a significant amount of time. The right-handed blueliner has been one of the team’s best since arriving in Vancouver through trade back in March 2023.

He suffered an upper body injury and will be unable to play for some time per insider Irfaan Gaffar.

Not much is known at this point about the 27-year-old’s injury but it appears as if it happened in the third period of last night’s 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He got knocked into the boards from a distance with less than a minute left in the game and looked to be shaken up.

Hronek has nine points in 21 games so far this season. He’s playing 23:36 minutes per night, the second most on the team behind captain Quinn Hughes.

While the Canucks had all of their best players largely stay healthy last season, they’ve already dealt with numerous injuries this year. Brock Boeser missed time, Thatcher Demko has yet to play, and J.T. Miller stepped away from the team for personal reasons. Hronek’s absence is another one to add to the list.

The right-side of the blue line is already a thin position group for the Canucks. Without Hronek, the players next in line are Tyler Myers, Noah Juulsen, and Vincent Desharnais.

The Canucks were already reported to be looking at trading for a defenceman. Hronek’s injury makes that need even more pressing.

More to come…
