Trudeau welcomes Taylor Swift to Canada, draws mixed reactions

The Canada leg of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour is well underway, with a six-day stint in Toronto before heading to Vancouver for three nights. Swift received a warm welcome from none other than Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In a tweet that included a reference to her 2017 song “End Game,” Trudeau wrote, “We’re ready for you, Taylor Swift! Good choice wrapping The Eras Tour in Canada.”

It’s not the first time Trudeau addressed the singer on social media.

When Swift announced her tour dates in July 2023, Trudeau tweeted a response inviting her to Canada while referencing some of her biggest hits.

“It’s me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon,” he stated.

Trudeau’s welcome delighted Canadians and Swifties alike, with one stating, “I knew it. You’re a Swiftie.”

However, as one X user predicted, many people were not thrilled with Trudeau’s tweet addressing Swift.

The tweet did indeed draw harsh criticism, with many calling it cringey.

The Eras Tour in Canada is set to wrap on December 8 at BC Place in Vancouver.
