Thousands still without power after storm rolls through B.C.’s South Coast

Thousands are waking up without power on Wednesday morning after a storm brought strong winds and rain, downing trees and branches across B.C.’s South Coast.

As of 6:30 a.m., almost 20,000 BC Hydro customers were still without power. The most affected areas include Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast, with minimal outages right in Metro Vancouver.

The wind is expected to die down by the afternoon as the storm blows through, with scattered showers turning into possible thunderstorms later Wednesday evening.

Wednesday morning hasn’t seen any BC Ferries cancellations and it’s a far cry from the necessary wind-related cancellations on Tuesday evening.

However, the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route is seeing multiple sailing waits as the ferry service plays catch up.
