Once again, Canadians are being recruited for an annual student job of a lifetime (and it offers a pretty decent salary).
Applications are open for the Canadian Coast Guard Inshore Rescue Boat Student program where crew members will be expected to patrol the waters and help keep people safe.
For this important role, people brought on board will be expected to be reliable, calm, able to work in a high-stress environment, and able to leap into action at any time.
“Search and Rescue operations can occur at any time of the day or night, during all types of weather and sea conditions,” the job posting reads. “As part of a crew, participants have the serious responsibility of responding to mariners in distress or need of assistance.”
The Summer contract starts around the end of April 2025 and goes into early September 2025.
“Crews operate on a rotating schedule of 14 consecutive days of work followed by 14 days of rest. During your 14 days of work, you will live and work with your crew,” the posting reads.
Lodging and a shared meal budget will be provided when crew members are working.
About 100 crew members are being recruited and the salary starts at $19.72 an hour.
Crew members will work at the stations in Nova Scotia, Québec, Ontario, Newfoundland, Labrador, or British Columbia.
The Canadian Coast Guard goes on to add that for some people, their time as new coast guards turning into more than a summer job. It could even becoming a career calling.
