Whitecaps season over after heartbreaking playoff loss to LAFC

The Vancouver Whitecaps’ hard-fought playoff run has come to an end.

The team lost 1-0 in a do-or-die Game 3 tonight in Los Angeles. The lone goal was scored by Mateusz Bogusz in the second half with a nice left-foot finish.

The visitors got the majority of the chances in the first half but couldn’t score. Their best chance came when Brian White was set in on goal but his chip went wide.

LAFC came out with new energy in the second half and managed to break the deadlock to secure the win.

While the final result didn’t go their way, the Whitecaps put up an impressive fight. They had more than 60% possession and held LAFC to just two shots on target.

This means the Whitecaps’ MLS season is now over. LAFC will move on to face the Seattle Sounders in the next round.

The Whitecaps lost Game 1 againt LAFC 2-1 despite controlling play for the majority of the game. They bounced back in Game 2 with a huge 3-0 win at BC Place, setting up the final elimination game.

Despite losing in Round One, this was an exciting playoff run for the Whitecaps filled with memorable moments. The team failed to record a win in their last seven regular season games and had just one MLS playoff win before this year. They added two more across the last few weeks.

Ryan Gauld led a 5-0 route of the Portland Timbers in the Wild Card match which will go down in team history as an epic postseason performance. Taking the top-seeded LAFC to three games, and coming so close to pulling off the stunning upset, is another solid result, even if they didn’t get the victory.
