Wet and windy weather to blast Vancouver with weekend soak

Get the umbrellas out and reinforce them with duct tape, as wet and windy weather is on the way for Vancouver this weekend.

The City of Vancouver says it has received an “extreme weather alert” and will be opening additional shelter spaces from tonight until the 11th.

While Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) hasn’t issued its official alert yet, it’s still warning of heavy rain and strong winds, and the forecast shows that the rain will not let up for quite some time.

Water pooling on roads, washouts near creeks and rivers, and power outages are possible. Clear storm drains of leaves and debris. Secure loose objects,” ECCC says. If you enjoyed the sunshine on Friday morning, it’ll be the last you’ll see of it for quite some time, as ECCC’s seven-day forecast shows no reprieve from the rain.

Things will get a little blustery starting Friday night, and residents should brace for up to 25 mm of rain. Wind speeds could be pushing 20 km/h.

ECCC expects the rain to taper off by Saturday afternoon before more showers later in the day.

Temperatures will hover around 10°C, but they will gradually drop as the week progresses. The coldest temperatures are expected overnight next Wednesday.
