Fans watching Sportsnet’s online stream of tonight’s Vancouver Canucks game are steaming mad.
Five minutes into the second period of the game against the Anaheim Ducks, the Sportsnet+ service cut to commercial. It occurred without warning, in the middle of a shift. The broadcast proceeded to either show commercials or a message reading “commercial break in progress” for the next 13 minutes of real time.
When the issue was finally resolved, there was 8:13 left in the second period.
Thankfully, no goals were scored during the unscheduled blackout and fans watching on traditional television did not appear to experience the same issue.
The timing was awkward though, given that Sportsnet recently made subscribers aware that they would soon raise the monthly price for their streaming service, from $19.99 to $24.99.
@Sportsnet @Canucks @CanuckPR: why is the game being interrupted in the middle of play for a commercial break? Figure out your TV Timeouts!! They’re pretty easy. They’re 90 seconds and they ONLY happen when the game is STOPPED!! pic.twitter.com/xkJO9LpGfF
