Canada’s largest-ever drone show is coming to Vancouver for Grey Cup Festival

Vancouver’s upcoming Grey Cup Festival will feature a ton of special events, including a historic drone show.

Canada’s largest-ever drone show will take place on November 13 and be visible to people along Vancouver’s waterfront. The spectacle will use 1,000 drone units, more than have ever been used in a Canadian show, and it is completely free to watch.

The best place to view the historic event is along downtown’s northern waterfront near Coal Harbour from Canada Place to the Westin Bayshore. The show starts at 8:15 pm and will last for 12 minutes.

“This remarkable initiative led by our partners at Destination Vancouver and developed by Pixel Sky Animations further pushes the 2024 edition of the festival into the Grey Cup week history books,” said Duane Vienneau, president of the BC Lions and co-chair of the 2024 Grey Cup Festival.

If you’re planning on heading downtown for the show, be warned it will likely be crowded. The Vancouver Christmas Market and Save-On-Foods Street Festival are happening at similar times on the same day.

The show is dependent on the weather holding up and could be cancelled if things get out of hand. If the weather doesn’t cooperate on November 13, the event will be rescheduled for Friday, November 15.

The magnificent drone show is just one of many activities planned for the week of festivities. Other highlights include a huge number of free concerts and an exciting zip line over parts of downtown.

The actual game takes place on November 17. The BC Lions have already been eliminated from playoff contention after a loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Grey Cup will pit the winner of the semifinal between the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes against the winner of the semifinal between the Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
