The Edmonton Oilers’ biggest stars have been feeling the love for their rivals over the past couple of days.
Captain Connor McDavid recently admitted on an Amazon Prime promo that he was a big fan of the Calgary Flames’ array of jerseys, and now it’s Leon Draisaitl’s turn to do the same, but this time it’s for the Vancouver Canucks.
The German superstar was also the subject of a promotional video by Amazon, and in it, he was asked to name the loudest fanbase in Canada. While it appeared that he answered correctly the first time by saying Edmonton, the question-askers made him choose another fanbase.
“Other than Edmonton? Vancouver was loud,” Draisaitl said after doing some thinking.
Draisaitl would have an idea of how loud Rogers Arena in Vancouver can get after playing a seven-game second-round playoff series against the Canucks last season. The vibes inside that arena during that series seemed electric, and the Oilers lost some dramatic games there, which only gave rise to louder crowds.
Of course, the same could be said for the Oilers’ home fans, who were deafening en route to the Stanley Cup Final. The series in Vancouver and the passion displayed by the Canucks fanbase clearly impressed Draisaitl.
The two teams have cultivated quite a rivalry over the past season, with the playoff run causing tensions to flare more than ever between the two fanbases. With the teams set to meet for the first time this season on the weekend in Vancouver, you can expect the crowd to be just as fired up.
After all, while Draisaitl understands how loud Vancouver fans can be, he also knows how quiet the rink can get, as he got the last laugh with a Game 7 victory in Rogers Arena last year.
