Canucks send down Bains again and call up another forward

The Vancouver Canucks are making a roster move ahead of tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks.

The club announced today they’ve sent Arshdeep Bains to the AHL and recalled forward Aatu Räty in his place.

While Bains has bounced up and down between the NHL and AHL as the team looks to save cap space, this time he’s being replaced on the active roster by another forward.

Bains has one goal in seven NHL games so far this season. He’s had plenty of opportunities in the team’s top-six but the points haven’t followed.

Räty is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the team faces off against the Ducks on the road.

Räty played three NHL games with the Canucks at the start of the year and picked up one point. He’s played an additional eight AHL contests and has seven points so far, showing off some strong offensive chops in the minors.

When the Canucks showed their lines yesterday at practice in Anaheim, Bains was playing centre despite being a natural winger. Head coach Rick Tocchet admitted that the team was looking at calling up a centre to fill that spot.

Räty is a natural centre and strong in the circle. He will help solidify the team down the middle as they’ve moved Pius Suter to the wing. The Finnish forward was finding his stride in the AHL with six points in his last three games.

The Canucks still have an extra roster spot after sending down Nils Aman last weekend. This means the team can activate Dakota Joshua from injury reserve whenever he is ready and they will not need to send anyone down.
