The Pacific Rim Highway — Highway 4 — was closed in both directions Friday evening due to rocks and water on the road, DriveBC says.
The service posted on X that the highway was closed around 5:30 p.m. near Kennedy Lake.
Drivers are advised to expect major delays in the area.
The highway closure effectively cuts off Tofino and Ucluelet from the rest of Vancouver Island.
As of 10:30 p.m. Friday, the road remains closed. DriveBC says it will provide an update on the situation Saturday morning.
While it isn’t clear if the cause is weather-related, Vancouver Island is getting pummelled by rain due to the atmospheric river also being seen in the Lower Mainland.
