Free transit in some B.C. communities on election day

Some people heading to the polls for the B.C. election won’t have to worry about paying for transit.

BC Transit, the province’s transit provider outside of Metro Vancouver, says it’s partnered with some local governments to offer free transit on Oct. 19.

“Offering free transit helps make it easier for residents to get to the polls and cast their ballots. Decisions to offer free transit are made by local government partners in each separate community,” the transit provider shared on Wednesday.

Some routes in the Comox Valley, Cowichan Valley, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Kitimat, Penticton, Port Alberni, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Nanaimo, Revelstoke, Salt Spring, Skeena district, Smithers, South Okanagan-Similkameen, Vernon, Victoria regional transit, West Kootenay region, and Williams Lake are set to run at no cost to travellers on the day.

More information on the routes affected can be found at BC Transit.

Polls will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, closing at 8 p.m.
