Hwy 1 lanes reopen after truck struck overpass, scattered debris near Abbotsford

Traffic in Abbotsford has begun to ease after a truck struck an overpass Friday afternoon and scattered debris over Highway 1.

Images from social media around 12:40 p.m. show what appears to be a big truck hauling a prefabricated home that smashed into the No. 3 Road Overpass.

Just before 3 p.m., Drive BC confirmed that the truck was cleared and the westbound lanes had reopened.

George from Maple Ridge called 1130 NewsRadio to describe the crash he witnessed shortly after it happened.

“So I’m getting off at the No. 3, and just before it, I notice this great big dust ‘poof’ thing,” said George.

Wood and insulation, George says, covered the road after the strike.

The province has documented 23 other overpass strikes this year.
