Woman dies after being rescued from Fraser River in Richmond Thursday, RCMP says

A woman has died after being rescued from the frigid waters of the Fraser River in Richmond Thursday.

The Richmond RCMP tells 1130 NewsRadio it received a report of a woman in distress in the river yelling for help. Officers went to the river near the No 2 Road Bridge and contacted the Canadian Coast Guard for help.

Mounties found the woman unconscious.

“The woman was not accessible from shore but with the assistance of a civilian boat operator, a Richmond RCMP frontline officer was able to get to her and pull her from the river,” Corp. Adriana O’Malley said.

The officer administered CPR while she was taken back to shore, O’Malley says.

“The woman was transported to a local area hospital but unfortunately, despite all life-saving efforts, did not survive,” she said.

The death is not considered suspicious.
