The Lake Cowichan RCMP says it is investigating a suspicious death in the Ditidaht First Nation.
Mounties were called to a home just before 7 a.m. Saturday, where they found a deceased man.
“Due to the situation at hand, other support units were called to assist, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT),” police said.
A short time later, police arrested a suspect “without further incident.”
Judi Thomas, Chief Councillor for the First Nation, posted a statement on Facebook shortly after the incident, telling community members to stay indoors and keep their windows closed.
Thomas posted a later statement telling community members that counselling supports would be available to them.
Police say this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the general public.
