Park Board launches #MoveForHealthVan contest for Global Move for Health Day

May 10 2022 –

Today, May 10, is Global Move for Health Day, an international event created by the World Health Organization to promote physical activity. To celebrate, we’re hosting #MoveforHealthVan, a contest where residents can post about or log their daily physical activity in the city between May 10 and 24, 2022 to win some great prizes.

The Park Board’s social accounts are often tagged in amazing posts of people getting outside, being active, and enjoying the parks, trails, and bike lines. Now, for the duration of the contest, the people posting could be rewarded with fun, free activities.

Prizes

In addition to improved mental health and physical wellbeing, eligible participants can win one of the following prizes:

  • One-month Flexipasses
  • Day passes to a pool, arena, or fitness centre
  • Golf course passes
  • Pitch and putt passes
  • VanDusen Botanical Garden passes
  • Bloedel Conservatory passes
  • Urban Forest Train family passes (valid for 2 adult and 2 children passes up to 18 years old)

How to participate

Posts can be entered by sharing activities on your social media through Facebook, X, Instagram, or Instagram stories and tagging @ParkBoard as well as #MoveforHealthVan. Each post will count as a unique entry and there is no limit to the number of entries per person.

The possibilities to enter are endless, however, some examples include taking a photo, video or story of:

  • A walk through Stanley Park
  • A run on the seawall
  • A volleyball game in Kitsilano
  • Yoga in a local park
  • A selfie in a swim cap before doing a polar plunge in the ocean

That being said, not everyone uses social media or feels comfortable sharing their daily activities. For those wanting to participate in other ways, or for people with private social accounts, an Activity Log can be printed, or picked up at a participating community centre, filled out, and resubmitted to be entered.

Winners will be selected by draw and notified on May 27, 2022, but since Vancouver has been recognized as one of the top 10 healthiest cities in the world, it’s safe to say the activities will continue.
