The RCMP’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation of a woman’s death in New Westminster earlier this week.
Police were called about a death near the 1400-block of Salter Street at about 5 p.m. PT Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found a 38-year-old woman who had died, according to New Westminster Police Department Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
Leaver said police believe her death was suspicious and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), the RCMP’s homicide unit, is now leading the investigation.
In an email to CBC News, Leaver said New Westminster police can not provide further comment.
IHIT has not responded to a request for comment.
Police are asking anyone with information on the death to contact IHIT.
