Chilliwack man charged for 2 bank robberies in Edmonton area

Alberta RCMP has charged a 30-year-old man from Chilliwack, B.C. in connection to a bank robbery in Spruce Grove and in Edmonton.

RCMP says around 11:30 a.m. on July 17, they received a report that a man had entered a CIBC in Spruce Grove, and handed a note to a bank teller which reportedly had “this is a robbery” written on it.

The man allegedly claimed to be carrying a gun, though RCMP confirmed through security footage that no gun was visible at the time. The suspect reportedly demanded cash, and after getting the money, left on foot.

Around 3:05 p.m. on July 18, the Edmonton Police Service, responded to a report of a robbery at a Servus Credit Union along Rabbit Hill Road.

Reports indicated a man, again walked up to a bank teller stated it was a robbery, claimed he had a gun, and demanded money.

Investigators were quickly able to confirm both robberies were related, and done by the same person.

Through an investigation, police were able to take 30-year-old Jacob Luke Mcdonald into custody in Chilliwack.

He has since been transported back to Alberta, where he was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of disguise with intent.

He is expected to appear in court on Sept. 23 in St. Albert.
