Vancouver’s first Lime Scooters have launched in the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood.
From Thursday, the shareable electric scooters can be rented from a number of docking stations in the East Vancouver area.
Mayor Ken Sim says Vancouver is the first city in the world that has required docking stations for the scooters — a move that aims to stop sidewalks and streets from being cluttered by the devices.
“I’m personally stoked that lime is finally here. It’s super cool,” Sim said at the launch of the service Thursday.
Sim says the scooters all come with helmets, the Lime App will have a training program for new riders, and the scooters have sidewalk detection systems to prevent riders from using them on sidewalks.
“This partnership with Lime represents way more than just a way of getting around. It’s a testament to Vancouver’s leadership in green transportation and our drive to build a network that’s cleaner and safer and more connected, connecting our city for everyone who wants to live, work, and play here,” he explained.
Lime says it plans to expand throughout the city over the next five years.
