The Vancouver Police Department says it’s arrested a man in connection with two “serious incidents” in the city’s downtown that involved the death of one person on Wednesday morning.
CBC News staff witnessed seven police vehicles outside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and officers performing CPR on a person lying on the ground near Hamilton Street at West Georgia Street around 7:30 a.m. PT.
Soon afterwards, a CBC reporter observed a pool of blood under the person, whose body was then covered.
Police also taped off a second scene nearby, a section of Homer Street between Georgia and Dunsmuir streets. Photographs from the scene show blood on the ground.
Extra patrols
On X, the VPD said it was investigating two “serious incidents” downtown between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
A later update said officers had arrested a man in connection with the two incidents. No other details were provided about the suspect or the condition of a possible second victim.
“Extra VPD officers are patrolling,” the earlier post said.
