A 29-year-old man has been charged with several offences after a violent carjacking outside the Prince George Airport left two elderly people injured, one seriously, police say.
Prince George RCMP said in a release that the suspect approached a parked car at the airport and pushed an elderly female passenger out of the vehicle around 1 p.m. PT Saturday.
The suspect then tried unsuccessfully to shove the elderly driver out of the open driver-side door, police said. The driver accelerated the car away but crashed after a short distance, causing them to be thrown from the vehicle.
The suspect then attempted to drive the vehicle further but it soon broke down and officers were able to arrest the man, RCMP said.
The driver suffered serious injuries when the car crashed and he was thrown from the vehicle, and he was taken to hospital, police said. The passenger’s injuries were deemed to be not serious, they added.
The charges approved against the suspect include robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, assault, and driving while prohibited, said the RCMP, adding there were multiple witnesses to the incident.

The suspect will remain in custody until his next court appearance, police said.
