Lillooet Hospital emergency department closed for one day

Due to limited physician availability, emergency services at Lillooet Hospital will be unavailable for 24 hours.

In a release Tuesday, Interior Health says emergency services will be closed from 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21 to 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The health authority says patients can access care at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops instead, but it says 911 should be called if necessary.

“People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility,” the release said.

Inpatient services will continue as normal at Lillooet Hospital.

Anyone who is not sure whether an ER visit is required can call HealthLink BC at 811 or visit www.healthlinkbc.ca for non-emergency health information 24 hours a day.
