200-bed long-term care home coming to Chilliwack General Hospital

The B.C. government says it’s adding 110 new long-term care beds to Chilliwack General Hospital.

The province and the Fraser Health Authority plan to build a five-storey long-term care home on Chilliwack’s Mary Street near the hospital. The building will reportedly replace the 90-bed Bradley Centre and add 110 more.

“The new long-term care home will be designed as households, each accommodating 12 to 13 residents, with every resident having a private single-bed room and bathroom. It will include social and recreational spaces typical of a home, such as living rooms, dining rooms, activity areas and access to outdoor spaces,” the province said in a statement Monday.

The building is estimated to cost $274 million and will include a 32-space adult day program designed to support older adults living independently at home.

“By investing in building more long-term care homes and improving the quality of existing facilities, we’re securing a future where older adults can age with dignity in their community,” said B.C.’s Health Minister Adrian Dix.

The province says construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and be completed by 2029.
