Langley house fire displaces three people: official

A family has been displaced after a fire broke out in a Langley home Friday.

Crews from the township were called to the area of 24th Avenue and 213th Street around 10:30 a.m. Township of Langley Deputy Fire Chief Cory Parker says flames appear to have started on the second floor.

“First crews on arrival had smoke coming from the upper floor of the structure,” he told 1130 NewsRadio.

Parker says the fire “was a little bit stubborn,” taking a bit of time to put out.

“The structure did sustain heavy damage to the upper area of the house,” he added.

All three people who were in the home were waiting for firefighters outside after the fire broke out. Parker says one of them suffered minor smoke inhalation but declined treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Parker says it will be some time before residents can return home “due to the amount of damage and the products of combustion.”

Two of the people living there are being put up in a hotel by social services, while the third person has found accommodation with family, Parker explains.
