Surrey’s Fleetwood Park Secondary School to be expanded

B.C.’s largest school district is set to see hundreds of new seats for students, through an expansion of Fleetwood Park Secondary.

The four-storey addition to the Surrey high school will result in 800 new spots, the province explains. The expansion is expected to be ready in 2029.

“We are responding to the growing demand for student seats in Surrey and we’re building this school addition with the learning and child care spaces that people in this community need,” said Minister of Education and Child Care Rachna Singh said.

According to the ministry, the expansion is possible through a “new investment of $78.6 million from the province.”

The new facility is set to include a neighbourhood learning centre, complete with an Indigenous learning and meeting space, and a space for child care for families in the area.

Laurie Larsen, the chair of the Surrey Board of Education, says the district “welcomes hundreds of new students each month.”

“This much-needed addition is one in a series of important steps to help create the type of learning environment Surrey students deserve. It will feature dedicated space for students with diverse learning needs and a variety of collaborative learning spaces designed to respond to the student community,” explained Larsen.
