March 23 2023 –

Seniors are the fastest growing age demographic in Vancouver. Many seniors and adults who are 55+ will have different housing needs as they age, including changing affordability, health, and accessibility considerations.

Starting today, the City is seeking input on its first Seniors Housing Strategy to better understand and meet the housing needs of seniors and older adults in Vancouver.

The Seniors Housing Strategy will include:

  • An exploration of innovative housing solutions specific to seniors
  • An inventory of existing housing options and gaps
  • Updated design guidelines for senior-focused housing
  • A rezoning and resident relocation policy
  • Increased partnerships with senior-serving organizations
  • Advocacy to and improved collaboration with government partners
  • And other immediate actions and policies identifying future City-led work

To ensure the Seniors Housing Strategy meets the diverse needs of Vancouver’s older adults, we are asking seniors, Elders, adults 55+, and caregivers, including those who support aging family members, to take our survey, lead a Conversation Kit engagement session, and come to our in-person events to share their input.

Your feedback will help us understand the housing needs of seniors and adults aged 55+ living in Vancouver and will help shape policies, partnerships, and advocacy actions being developed this year.
