Police still searching for aggressive dog’s owner after fatal mauling of family pet

After a tragic attack by a dangerous off-leash dog resulted in the death of a family pet Monday, police say they are still searching for the aggressive dog’s owner.

The Vancouver Police Department and the city’s Animal Services are working together in the investigation to find the woman who fled the scene. In a statement from Animal Services on Thursday, they said the suspect in question has yet to come forward, and they are currently reviewing the tips they have received from the public.

They also say that these public tips are crucial to the investigation.

Rebeka Breder, a lawyer who works in animal law, says the suspect could be facing criminal or non-criminal charges and could be looking at thousands of dollars in fines.

“For at the very least for her dog being off leash in an on-leash area, not having control of her dog, and as well as biting, attacking, or injuring a dog, and the fines for that could range between $250 per charge and $10,000,” Breder said.

Anyone with any information about the suspect is asked to call the VPD on their non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.
