Hundreds gathered outside of the Surrey School District building Wednesday evening, hoping keep the StrongStart program operating in the city.
This was the second such rally of the week, and took place during a meeting of the city’s school board.
Education advocate Cindy Dalglish was at the gathering, and says parents don’t feel like they are being heard.
“I would say there was at least 60 or 70 parents in attendance, and maybe even more, and unfortunately, they were only allowing up to 60 people in the board meeting audience,” she told CityNews.
Dalglish says the StrongStart program helps children up to the age of five with their language skills and social, emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities.
However, Surrey Schools says the program is running on a critical deficit.
Wednesday’s Surrey School Board meeting wrapped up without any discussion about the program.
CityNews has reached out to the School Board for comment.
