The 2024 Vancouver Pride Parade is set to kick off this Sunday at noon at Denman and Davie, and locals are already looking forward to celebrating our city’s diversity and pride.
The parade route will continue down Beach Avenue, connecting to Pacific Boulevard and ending at Concord Pacific Place near BC Place.
Large crowds are expected.
“We are expecting hundreds of thousands of people to come down,” said VPD media relations officer Const. Tania Visintin.
“Every year it is always a really big event, a great turnout, and it is always a lot of fun. The VPD will be deploying additional officers on Sunday, and that is to ensure that everyone has a really safe and fun experience for the pride parade.”
With many businesses around the West End decorating their storefronts with colourful rainbows and messages of cheer, many in the area say this celebration is more than just a party.
“To be able to express who you are genuinely and authentically — Vancouver is such a beautiful and inclusive space — and to be able to have a city that feels comfortable to be who you need to be and celebrate that, I think that is just so important,” one local told CityNews.
Road closures throughout the West End will run from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. The VPD suggests people take transit if they are planning to come join the event.
